Landscapes at the Bell

The Bell Tower Cultural Center presents an evocative exploration of natural landscapes through the lens of local artists. This exhibition invites viewers to journey through diverse environments, from sweeping vistas to intimate corners of nature, highlighting the beauty, resilience, and quiet power of the land. Featuring a mix of traditional and modern techniques, the collection emphasizes the delicate relationship between humans and nature, urging reflection on the impact of our actions on these serene spaces. Whether it’s the calm of a forest at dawn or the rugged beauty of a windswept coast, the Bell Tower offers a space to pause, reflect, and reconnect with the earth.

Come view some of the best landscape art in our area with local artists including David Sommers, Nick Elsener, Maryanne Riker, Raffaele DePamphilis and more being added soon.

Artists Biographies

David Sommers

David Sommers is a multidisciplinary fine artist based in the Lehigh Valley, PA. With 30 years of experience, he synthesizes past art traditions with a modern, multidimensional viewpoint. His work reflects a Cubist-Realist style of geometric shapes, organized on diagrammatic intersections that fracture color, space, and shape. His work is on display in private collections and at three Penn State Hospitals, including a large mural at Penn State Health Hampden Medical Center.

Maryann Riker

Maryann Riker is a mixed-media artist whose artist books and collage works convey a visual narrative to remind one of the past and journeys through which we all travel throughout our lives. Her works incorporate digital images, Victorian iconography, and other symbols to convey a sense of memory and time as one opens and unfolds the work.

Her works have been exhibited both nationally and internationally and are in the Special Collections of The Brooklyn Museum of Art.

Nick Elsener

As still a relatively new artist, when looking for subjects to paint, most often my paintings are based on one of my own photos. Usually using the same photographic compositions and colors I originally captured through my camera lens and reinterpreting my photo work into a painting. I am originally from the midwest, and seem to gravitate towards doing landscapes. I think my midwest roots fostered a love for the beauty that nature continually provides us.

Raffaele DePamphilis

Raffaele DePamphilis was born in the village of Sulmona, Italy, surviving WW II bombing raids, and graduating from Technico Instituto “Tito Acerbo” in nearby Pescara. Using his degree, DePamphilis worked for six years with architects and engineers prior to immigrating to the United States in 1956.

It was not until the age of 78, that DePamphilis began his artistic career as an artist.

Raffaele DePamphilis died on October 11, 2018 at the age of 91.

Scott Beck

I love how an image can appear right in front of you; just a subtle change of light or a slight angle difference provides a completely different composition. I’ve spent hours working on different compositions, learning how to capture night pictures, and studying the work of other great landscape photographers. Nothing makes me more proud than knowing that I captured a beautiful picture. Seeing these pictures on print is very exciting and I’m thrilled. Scott is originally from Berlinsville, PA
